New EBTG back catalogue compilation

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

"EMI (UK) have just released a collection of EBTG's nineties recordings for Virgin. Entitled, imaginitively, 'The 90's Collection', it features tracks you probably already have from 'Walking Wounded' and 'Temperamemntal'. The only two exceptions are the Knee Deep mix of 'Corcovado' and Jazzy Jeff's great re-rub of 'Mirrorball' that came out on the remix comp 'Adapt Or Die' a few years ago. Nothing new, but something for completists."

Out Of The Woods

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

"Hello, long time no speak. Well, we come bearing hot news. Tracey's album is almost out. Here is the official press release below. Enjoy, folks!

TRACEY THORN / 'OUT OF THE WOODS' / CD AND LP / OUT MAR 5. If there is a timeless cross-generational voice in modern English pop, folk and electronica, it is that of Tracey Thorn. From her cult 1982 raw mini-album classic 'A Distant Shore', through best-selling eighties alt-pop with Everything But The Girl, to her re-emergence in the nineties with EBTG's world-trouncing crossover-electronica ('Missing', 'Walking Wounded') and seminal guest appearances with Massive Attack ('Protection') and Deep Dish ('The Future Of The Future'), she has articulated so many soundtracks to our modern lives with her simple, direct, tender-tough deliveries and lyrics. In 2005 she bought an old-fashioned 4-track cassette recorder, waited for the house to empty during the day and recorded a clutch of raw demos and ideas at home with her guitar and quirky instruments purchased off eBay. In contrast to the primitivism of the demos, she then deliberately handpicked some of the most future-facing and imaginative producers currently working in the world of electronica to help her fully realise the project.. The result is Out Of Woods. Musically it is a snapshot of so much music she has ever been into and about, capturing moments of late seventies disco, pastoral folk-psychedelica, dance floor pop bliss and stark balladry. The full single formats with mixes from Ewan Pearson, Martin Buttrich, Escort, DSE and Kris Menace will be in the shops on 26 February.

Album out March 5."

Hummer bummer

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

"After a year of wrangling with Warner Music UK over the usage of our 1992 recording of 'Love Is Strange' in a US TV ad for Hummer cars," say Ben and Tracey today, "we finally received an apology recently and a concession to consult us on similar licenses in future, whether or not we have a right to an artist veto. The negotiations were conducted drily and laboriously by their business affairs department. We were also finally informed of the fee received for the usage. While we cannot have the advert withdrawn, we have donated the Everything But The Girl portion of the fee to five leading charities - Oxfam, Greenpeace, Friends Of The Earth, Amnesty International and Unicef."

She's back!

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Tracey dropped a line to the EBTG Message Board this morning. We were gonna paraphrase it but we thought it was such a quietly momentous moment that we would print it in full here too -

"Hey there everybody, just thought I'd break my silence as I finally have something to say! I know Ben's mentioned here and on his Buzzin' Fly site a couple of things I've been up to - here's the full story.

The track 'Damage' that I recorded with Tiefschwarz last year for their 'Eat Books' album is coming out as a single v soon. Think the UK release date is May 15th. Remixes by M.A.N.D.Y. and Buick Project, all sounding great. That was the first track I'd written and sung since the Temperamental album in 2000. And it kind of got me started again. So I'm now working on a new solo album; solo in the sense that its not gonna be EBTG, but it's me collaborating with some other people. I'm doing tracks with Tom Gandey (aka Cagedbaby) and Ewan Pearson. Charles Webster's been helping out with a couple of arrangements. Got a few things finished/half-finished so far but been having to wait for Ewan to finish producing the new album by The Rapture. That's done now so we're due to finish off our tracks together in a couple of weeks. Looks like Virgin are gonna release my record, probably next Feb.

And in the meantime I've also written lyrics and recorded a vocal which might go on Justin Martin's album, due out on Buzzin' Fly at some point.

I'm gonna set up a MySpace page as soon as I get round to it (!) so that I can keep everyone up to date with the recording news etc, but I wanted to let you on the EBTG forum know first. Thanks for bothering to stay interested all this time while I've been on my long weekend. And just hope you like the new stuff when it finally sees the light of day ...

Love to all, Tracey x

PS / Here's a pic Ben took of me last month to prove I am still alive

Hummin' our tune. A personal message from Ben and Tracey.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

"Hello everyone. We would like to point out that the currrent TV commercial in the US for Hummer that uses our cover version of 'Love Is Strange' was put together without our knowledge or consent. Unfortunately Warner Music UK control our early 90's recorded performances and agreed that the track could be used. It is common courtesy to inform the artist and listen to any objections when something like this happens. We were not contacted by Warner Music UK.

"Fortunately if the artist also writes the song, they can put a stop to things by refusing to allow the publishing copyright to be used. Unfortunately in this case, we did not write the song and therefore could not block it on those grounds.

"We are deeply concerned that our music has been used in this way. It is something we would never have condoned had we'd been given the choice.

"We are currently in lengthy legal discussion with Warner Music UK. We would have spoken out earlier but needed to clarify our position. We will make our final position clear and issue a statement in due course.

Best always,"

Ben and Tracey

Tiefschwarz 'n' Tracey

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Good morning. Tracey emerges blinking into the spotlight this summer with her first vocal performance since she re-sang Corcovado for the Knee Deep Remix back in 2002. This time she has teamed up with uber-cool German electro-house dons, Tiefschwarz, on a new track for their debut album. The song is called Damage. The melody and lyrics are by Tracey, the music by Jochen Schmalbach and Tiefschwarz. Ben recorded Tracey's vocals in London in April. The album is out on Fine Recordings in July. Please note - some early promos and pre-order information do not list the track as it was completed late in the project.

Hello. There are some brand new pics of us in circulation taken by one of our fave photographers and friends, Juergen Teller. These are mainly to prove Tracey hasn't been kidnapped and is alive and well. They are also being used to promote the new album Adapt Or Die. They were taken in London in February 2005. Tracey was experimenting with her favourite new gadget, ceramic hair-straightening tongs.

Adapt or Die

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Hello. March 14 and 15 sees the release of our new retrospective remix album, Adapt Or Die - Ten Years Or Remixes. Hope you love it. Hats off to Johnny D at Atlantic for helping out hook up the additional remixers for the record. Funny story - King Britt asked personally to remix Rollercoaster, not for an aesthetic reasons but because he chatted up his first girlfriend in highschool to it. We won't raise your hopes and say that it signals a new upcoming studio album, because we still have no plans to record one at the moment. However, Tracey may be appearing on her first collaboration for ages this summer - only one track, but if it comes to fruition of course we will let you know. Meanwhile we have re-designed the website for you, and if you want to keep track of Ben's award-winning underground label, Buzzin' Fly, and all his DJ activities, just hop over to the Buzzin' Fly website.
